i see!
I can't quite brain how Hiroaki Samura can create one of the most well-written female characters out there, then turn around and do books and books of nothing but ladies getting raped and mutilated. Like. What.

Unrelated: last night I had a dream where James May, Richard Hammond, the Marquis de Carabas and I were sneaking out of the evil samurai lord Clarkson's castle. We had nearly made it to the escape helicopters when de Carabas tripped an alarm. "I told you we shouldn't have trusted him," I cried, as we ran from the ninja guards. "He doesn't even make thematic sense!"

It's kind of crazy, isn't it? Have you been reading the guro artbooks or... what was it called, Bradherley's host? I can't remember precisely the title of that manga. D|

One of the artbooks and then Bradherley's, just to see if the erckiness thing was a one-off. NOPE. :|

Suddenly, Shira is a lot more creepy.

I have... well, I've never managed to find Bradherley's in a format I can read, but I know the gist of it, and it's really a strange dichotomy, isn't it? On the one hand he has women like Rin and Hyakurin (and Meguro and Tampopo, who show up later), and on the other hand he writes those poor girls... I'm told they're written sympathetically, and you really do feel for them, it's a hard story to read? But it's strange that he'd write women who are really so empowered in one series and then turn around and go the other way in another book...

And the guro artbooks are kind of a mystery to me. |D Although, well, it also probably has to do with just... for the most part guro squicks me. >___>

This is where I found it, scanlated. The characters are written very strongly and sympathetically, and I pretty much wanted happy AU fic where they went to opera school instead and had tea parties forever. :C

I quite like the sort of guro-y stuff that uses suffered violence as sign of strength-- the "knock me down and I'll just keep going!"/"big scary monster" types of deals. That's almost always about male characters, though. Whenever ladies get in the mix it's always dehumanising, women-made-powerless stuff that reeks of issues. Which is why I am confused! How can someone be so cool with female characters but also cool with drawing them being minced? Murr.

I have troubles with downloads sometimes... >__> /computer inept

But I'll try it later this week once things open up...

I think if I ran into more of that kind, I'd be okay with it... most of the guro I've encountered seems to be with ladies cut up and stuck in suitcases though, and that... ugh. D| I'm just really not in to that. Dammit, I have trouble with finding porn that I feel isn't degrading to women while still hitting my kinks a lot, especially since I'm partial to femsub and bondage and stuff and even when I find that it seems to tend to go too far and squick the hell out of me... =/ I hope this isn't TMI. And it's a pain, because I do believe that femsub stuff can be well-written and degrading in the sexy way without being degrading in every other way too, and I feel much better when the woman is presented sympathetically with a mind of her own and with limits that are at least respected by the narrative - where if they're breached, it's something the author is aware of as not being good. If her suffering is handled tastefully and respectfully... God I don't know if that makes any sense at all, do you know what I mean? But it seems like that's so rare.

Samura... XD I'll just read my BotI and love his fantastic heroines when he does them, because he knows how to write women respectfully and well. And the rest of it... >__> IDK man. It's a strange, strange dichotomy, but at least he does appear to be able to separate his fantasies with his realities, and he knows that women are people too. I think.

Yeah, the suitcase thing. D: That's sort of where I stop thinking of it as a kink and more of a reflection of RL issues with women. Because. Suitcases.

Ahh, I can't beging to imagine what a minefield the whole femsub/bondage scene must be. D: I know what you mean, though, the whole line between when suffering is respectful and when it's just exploitative. Must be hen's teeth to find, man. :|

That's true, I think I'll just stick with BotI and its fab ladyfolk. :)

Yeah. I mean, there are some weird kinks out there, and I probably have some tastes that appear pretty strange as well, but... suitcases. Um.

It's kind of ridiculous. =___= Ugh, at this point I usually settle for writing to my own kinks, or swapping kinks with a friend and we write for each other - we know each other's taste, so that makes it nice. XD I guess the internet is just not ready for femsub-but-respectful porn.

AHHH I can't wait until the translations catch up... there are hot ladies who appear and do some seriously badass shit... SLKDJFLKSDJF Samura, even though he writes his gurobooks I'll still love him just for them.

I think ladies are the best at writing respectful porn in general. :T I've only even seen femsub blogs, but they always come across as... well, pleasant! A big difference from the male-done stuff...

I guess it's because ladies know what ladies want? XD I've heard men and women are wired differently when it comes to appreciating smut, too, although I don't know how credible that really is - that women need more build-up and story and emotional involvement in their porn. I would have to agree that I personally enjoy smutty stuff more when it has all that build-up too, but I couldn't address the men's side of the argument, so.

I know that I find all the Best Gay Porn Anthologies 4 Eva books dull in comparison to, like, [info]bb_shousetsu (though I wonder how much of that is me just liking fantastic situations... most published erotica has a disappointing lack of mad scientists and monsters and beautiful things. :C).

Clearly, we just need to start our own fantastic-erotic publishing house. Y/y?

I've only read BotI, so I don't know what his other work is like, but I've heard stories of it being quite... er, graphic.

Speaking of BotI, I picked up volume 20 recently and holy shit is Rin kicking ass!

I didn't think it would be that much worse than Armbones McRape in BotI. I was wrong!

I haven't picked it up in so long... I need to catch up, especially for the promise of Rin ass-kickin'. :D

I can see Madara being quite comforable with piloting a giant robot, honestly. :I It seems right up his alley.
